Material properties (metals and polymers)
Measurement results for a test gear pair made from POM and PA6
We primarily test gear pairs made from polymer materials in our laboratory, as they are still very poorly researched but are becoming more and more common. Our laboratory staff thus perform measurements for different combinations of materials and also compares them using tribological tests.
The figure above shows the measurement results for a test gear pair made from POM and PA6 under different loads for the purpose of optimising the tooth profile. Different materials are combined to decrease friction and temperatures and thereby increase durability. Tests are run for several different combinations of materials. According to the data presented at the latest VDI Conference at the Technical University of Munich, where our researchers also presented their results, there is still very little data on polymers, which gives us a competitive advantage.
